PACT
The ACT Series (PreACT 9 Secure, PreACT Secure, and ACT) is a vertically aligned assessment system designed to measure students’ progress toward college and career readiness from grades 8–12.
Across the series, each assessment measures similar skill domains, but with increasing complexity as students advance through high school. The chart below outlines the various Illinois’s grade level readiness benchmarks alongside ACT’s 11th grade readiness benchmarks. Please note that ACT’s benchmarks are higher than ISBE’s.
The results are used for student placement and scheduling for high school.

ACT has separate English (18) and Reading (22) benchmarks that align to their research on students’ likely success in English Composition (English benchmark) and Social Sciences/History courses (Reading benchmark). ACT also maintains a STEM benchmark (Math + Science aggregate) of 26 (ACT).
While the scores you receive provide an indication of student performance on the PreACT or ACT, District 126 uses Progress Learning assessments for course planning, which are not official ACT products. Students will take an official PreACT or ACT each spring as part of mandated state testing.
