Is Zion District 6 planning to build a new middle school and make changes to the schools and placement of children per grade level?
The Board of Education continually monitors factors such as student enrollment, class size, operational costs, local, state and federal mandates and other factors impacting the school district in order to make effective decisions. The School Board has been exploring and evaluating various school configuration models over the past 20+ years to continually seek the best outcomes possible for our students.
At the June 17, 2019 Board of Education meeting, the School Board publicly approved a plan to move forward with finalizing details for a reconfiguration solution with the inclusion of community input. Furthermore, our goal is to expand student opportunities to meet the needs of our students while remaining aware of our fiscal parameters. At this time, we can clarify reconfiguration plan considerations will not involve new building construction but rather options to utilize the school structures currently present within the district. Communication with our community stakeholders will remain paramount as we move forward throughout each step of this ongoing process.
Where can dress code guidelines be located?
District dress code guidelines are identified within the District Handbook, which can be located on the District website under the registration tab and on each school website under the parent resources tab.
Additional school-specific guidelines are listed under the school information tab, Dress Code Guidelines, on each school's website.
How can a parent/guardian receive parent access to PowerSchool?
Directions for logging into our PowerSchool parent portal (PowerSchool Family Access) are located on each school's website under the parent resources tab. If you have not yet set up an account, please contact your school office to receive your child's access ID and password. If you have multiple children, collect each child's access ID and password prior to setting up an account. During the set-up process you will be able to add all of your children to our PowerSchool Family Access account.
How can children participate in the Lakeview Preschool Program?
The Zion Elementary District 6 Preschool Program is structured to provide services to at-risk children of ages 3-4 years old. Prior to program attendance, children participate in a screening process which included an approximate one-hour assessement to determine eligibility. During this time, parents will meet with a Lakeview staff member to collect additional information about the family and child being screened. The results of the screening will be shared at that time. For information regarding screening dates and details of the program, please call 847-872-0255.
